My deepest desire for all of us is that we would give God our very best and that our lives will be one of worship unto Him. That we will REALLY know God and be consumed with Jesus and not consumed with ourselves and what we want.
Something that I have been noticing is the wanting of blessings without desiring intimacy with God. Some want the blessings without the One who gives the blessings. (Dont get me wrong. I am amazed at all the blessings found in the Bible and we should anticipate them because it’s promised in the Bible!) But here’s the thing, the blessings of God are contingent on something…
Let’s look at some scriptures that talk about blessings and what leads to the blessings:
“Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers, but whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on his law day and night. That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither— whatever they do prospers. Not so the wicked! They are like chaff that the wind blows away. Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous.”
Psalms 1:1-5 NIV
“Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.”
Joshua 1:8 NIV
“and observe what the Lord your God requires: Walk in obedience to him, and keep his decrees and commands, his laws and regulations, as written in the Law of Moses. Do this so that you may prosper in all you do and wherever you go”
1 Kings 2:3 NIV
“So keep the words of this covenant to do them, that you may prosper in all that you do.”
Deuteronomy 29:9 NASB
“And you shall again obey the LORD, and observe all His commandments which I command you today. Then the LORD your God will prosper you abundantly in all the work of your hand, in the offspring of your body and in the offspring of your cattle and in the produce of your ground, for the LORD will again rejoice over you for good, just as He rejoiced over your fathers;”
Deuteronomy 30:8-9 NASB
“Now his master saw that the LORD was with him and how the LORD caused all that he did to prosper in his hand. So Joseph found favor in his sight and became his personal servant; and he made him overseer over his house, and all that he owned he put in his charge.”
Genesis 39:3-4 NASB
(In this verse, we see how Joseph’s master saw the fruit and prosperity of Joseph’s walk with God and that led to even more favor for Joseph! Phew!)
From the scriptures above, I see that blessings correlate with a heart after God. A heart that pursues righteousness. A heart that wants to know God’s word.
And you know what? As one gets closer to God and sees His beauty, everything pales in comparison to Him. We realize that He is the greatest blessing to have. We realize that the blessings we receive are ALL to His glory and NOT our glory.
Sometimes we go to God with things He should bless us with and we never even ask Him if that’s something He wants for us.
Intimacy with God and blessings go hand in hand. And I’m not just talking material blessings. I’m talking heavenly treasures and riches.
I want us to be a generation that really enjoys being in the presence of God, a generation that wants to know God entirely and please Him, not out of religiosity but out of all love. But we cannot love God until we receive His love and we know him intimately.
I was watching a program on TBN and the man mentioned how the people who stayed and remained in the faith were people who read their Bibles every day and the people who fell away from the faith or got distracted were people who weren’t spending time with God.
The Bible says to “meditate on His word day and night” that means continuously. The Bible also says to “pray without ceasing”. Even in the prayer that JESUS taught us He said, “give us today our daily bread” (aka nourish our beings). Are we receiving our daily bread? Is spending time with God daily a priority? Sometimes we treat God like an option when He is in fact the ONLY OPTION and is supposed to be our all in all. He is the center of everything and everything else comes second to Him. Periodt.
And as I write this, I am heavily convicted to do more, to be better, for my King, because He deserves my worship. Romans 12:1 says
“Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship.”
I don’t know about you but I want to offer true and proper worship to a King who is deserving. And that begins with me asking myself if “I’m really making Jesus the Lord of my life and if I love Him” because in John 14:15 Jesus says,
“If you love me, keep my commands.”
But this is the good news and grace of God! He will help me (us) love Him! He will peel away everything so that I(we) see Him clearly! What a good God!
Evidence: Jesus continues in verse 16
“And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever— the Spirit of truth.”
Hallelujah!
David says in Psalm 119:11
“I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.”
For God’s word to be hidden in our hearts guess what we have to do??? Spend time in the Word. The heart is a crucial part in our Christian walk and what we have in it/feed it determines our actions and course of life! I pray right now in the mighty name of Jesus that we will be sold out for Christ and we will meditate on the Word, not one time during the day but continuously…Bringing it to remembrance and letting it be part and parcel of our being. Remember that obeying God is for our benefit, not His. I love you all but Jesus loves you more! And WE GET TO LOVE HIM BACKKK!!! Amen!!!!
What a beautiful reminder of God’s love and goodness!
Beautifully written and serves as a reminder that getting to know God’s word is so important.
